Art Club: Spring 2018

Art Club was super excellent.  I was ahead of the game so most of my stress was concentrated within the weeks leading up to March 1, coming up with fresh ideas, testing them out with Chloe and then photographing them to add to the page of Classes.  After two years, it feels like I am developing a groove, which is an amazing feat for someone who struggles with organization.  I'm really happy and really proud of myself for how much better I managed this year than the past sessions.  I am in the process of coming up with projects for a weekly 5 session go to see how that schedule will work and I am super stoked for the projects I have so far!

I can't thank everyone enough for their support and participation in this new creative venture.  Thank you for sticking it out along with all the little bumps here and there, thank you for the faith and encouragement and enthusiasm, I hold all of it very close to my heart.  I absolutely could not do these classes without attendees so thank you for filling my home with your avid little artists.

Here are a few quickies from Spring Break Art Club, please feel free to check out the ENTIRE GALLERY (as well as all our past sessions) on our WORKSHOPS page HERE.

Art Birthday Parties

I have begun offering Art Birthday Parties this year and so far it's been nothing but fun.  We started off with a Sleepover Themed birthday where the girls all designed and decorated their own SleepMasks.  Our second project was Watercolour/Yarn Unicorns which have been such a huge hit that we had double classes of them over our Spring Break Art Club.  Unless my Mom Brain is betraying me, I am certain that this was the next one in line and what an awesome and easy and colourful and visually fun project it is.  Mini Wall Tassle Hangings!

I am a million percent mega into providing these Art Birthday Party services so please hit me up with your party theme and I will do my best to create something for you!  These parties are not exclusively for children either, they are fully open to all ages looking to get their art on!

Indigo Workshop with School House Farm

My heart is singing.  This is the beginning of many more workshops to come!  Emily and I joined forces to offer an Indigo Dyeing Workshop to take place at School House Farm that included a phenomenal spread of appetizers, dessert and a Fall Inspired Cocktail for all our guests!  In typical Emily fashion, she decked out the area with bouquets of sunflowers and dahlias and a few of her first pumpkins of the season!  The majority of the food was produce she had sown, grown, and harvested this year: pickled garlic scapes, beans, and cucumbers, a kale and yellow zucchini quiche, roasted garlic paired with select cheeses and freshly baked baguettes were just a few of the appetizers.  Vodka was infused with farm pears over the week leading up to the event and then mixed with a homemade rosemary syrup and soda.  Dessert included an apple galette, homemade whipping cream, chocolate zucchini loaf, and fresh strawberries.  I know.  Amazing.

We gathered in a circle where I went through the indigo process and ladies got straight to work creating their designs with elastics, clothespins, string, and tongue depressers.  Patiently, we worked in two groups taking turns to dip and expose their pieces until it was time for the final reveal.  Just like snowflakes, no two are ever the same, each one so unique and magical in its creation.  The scarves were hung to dry across a makeshift clothesline that Kevin helped set up using twine and the easels he had designed for Paint Night.

I couldn't have been happier with the attendees for this first Adult Workshop!  So many familiar faces who have been so kind in supporting my passion to make creativity an accessible priority in life over the last 2 years.  I can not tell you how much it means to have this support and to know that I am able to provide a service to others.  Thank you to everyone who participated, I am still reeling with joy from this first successful experience!  Thank you!!!

Art Club | Summer Edition: Week 2

Week 2's projects included Windchimes and Indigo!  The windchimes were a new project that we brought on board.  In choosing our materials, the aim is to use pre-existing materials that can be recycled or natural materials that will leave a smaller footprint.  We used a variety of wood in addition to bamboo from the bamboo grove here at School House Farm.  The kids painted the top piece white and chose from a variety of patterns (including splatter painting) painted in black.  A colour pattern of Beads were added to their centre string before the task of tying began.  It was definitely more labourious than I had expected, but everyone was very proud and pleased with their final product!

Indigo, as usual, was anticipatory, then really boring and smelly, and ended with sweet victory, excitement, and pride.
